Abstract

In one swift «blow», the COVID-19 pandemic has transformed the legal industry, litigation and the way legal services are provided around the world. The judiciary was suddenly faced with the sudden need to accelerate digital transformation projects to further guarantee access to justice, and legal practitioners had to invest heavily in technical services to keep their practice in line with social distancing guidelines. In this article, while recognizing the unique times the world is now facing, the focus is on how the COVID-19 pandemic could impact the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments in the Russian Federation and globally. In particular, we will consider the following trends and developments in the field of digital transformation of the judicial process, the impact of COVID-19 on the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments (including arbitration), and also consider the possibilities for reforms of the judicial system.
