Abstract
The article examines the state policy in the field of vocational and technical education in the USSR from the mid-1960s to the first half of the 1980s, when the vocational and technical education system was at a new stage of development. The article considers the issues of expanding the network of educational institutions, improving the quality of education, raising the level of students' educational and methodological and practical training, and developing distance and evening education. The aim of the research is to analyze the main changes in the system of vocational education in this period and their impact on the gradual development of education and the provision of qualified personnel for the USSR economy. The study used methods of analysis and generalization of historical sources, as well as statistical data. The results of the research reveal the evolu-tion of educational reforms and their consequences, the need for a historical analysis to understand the mod-ern education system.
