Abstract

The da Vinci single port(SP) robotic system features a single arm design that may be particularly suitable for procedures requiring long and narrow working spaces, such as thyroidectomy. Recent advances in preoperative localization studies and the increasing demand for scarless surgery have spurred research into remote surgical techniques for parathyroid surgery. The hairline approach appears to offer the most convenient and safest access to the neck. In this paper, we share our preliminary experience with SP robotic parathyroidectomy, employing only a hairline incision, in one patient with primary hyperparathyroidism. The operation lasted 35 minutes and the console time was 15 minutes. There were no postoperative complications. The SP robot parathyroidectomy using a hairline incision is a viable and safe, providing improved surgical exposure and instrument manipulation.
