Abstract

The paper reviews transformations in the genre of a scholarly article. The study analyzes articles in different fields of science, which were published between 2000 and 2020. A comprehensive analysis of journal architectonics and article composition revealed that some of their parameters displayed constancy while others manifested change, a combination of progressive and regressive trends. External and internal factors were identified that affect the changeability / stability of the genre system. These factors include conventionalism; the cognitive abilities of a certain academic community; the growth of interdisciplinary studies; and synchronic and diachronic changes in literary form of Russian affect the language of scientific prose as one of its functional varieties. The inconsistency in the scope and interpretation of terms “scientific article” and some terms related to structural elements were found. The direction for further analysis was proposed.
