Abstract
The impact of the Finno-Ugric folklore on the emergence of religious dissidence in the 18th-cen-tury Russia is almost unexplored. In this article, a Mordovian legend that existed among the Dukho-bors is used as a case study, and the possible merging of story lines is considered in the context of the Russian imperial colonization policy.
