Abstract

The author presents historical facts from the period of formation and development of the Siberian State University of Geosystems and Technologies (from 1939 to 1994 – Novosibirsk Institute of Geodesy, Aerial Photography and Cartography Engineers), the only geodetic university beyond the Urals. Biographies of some professors and rectors, distinguished at development of the University, who carried out advanced scientific research or improved the pedagogical process and geodetic industry, are presented. The role of rector K. L. Provorov in enriching the material base of the institute and his contribution to geodetic science are reflected. He was one of the first in the country to have received the title Honored Figure of Geodesy and Cartography. There is some information on industry awards and honorary titles assigned to this educational institution’s employees and graduates. The most outstanding graduates submitted to State award, as well as those who became laureates of that named after F.N. Krasovsky for the best scientific and technical developments in geodesy and cartography are listed
