Abstract

This study verified how high school students sense teaching presence on self-regulated learning skill mediated by the basic psychological needs of self-deterministic motivation in online class and whether there are any gender differences in any relatedness among these variables. For this, questionnaires were distributed to three high schools located in the province J, and the data of 383 students were analyzed using the structural equation model(SEM). As the result of this study, first, it shows the sense of teaching presence has an effect on the basic psychological needs of self-deterministic motivation and self-regulated learning. Second, only competence-among the three sub-factors of basic psychological needs- was found to be madiating teaching presence and self-regulated learning ability variables in online classes. Third, there was no gender difference in the relationships among these factors. The results of this study shows a necessity for teachers to increase teaching presence during online class in order to improves student's self-regulated learning skill. And it is necessary to improve not only competence madiating teaching presence and self-regulated learning ability but also autonomy and relatedness of the basic psychological needs not mediating them.
