Abstract
So far, the history of science in modern Korea have asked two big questions. First, how did modern science take root within Korean society after the introduction of Western science? Second, what was the role of science and technology in the rapid economic development since the 1960s? In recent years, scholars in the field of modern and contemporary history of science in Korea have continued to hone in on these big questions, while exploring new questions that have not been asked before. This essay examines the scholarly contributions in this field in the last four years (2018~2021), during which a number of studies have intentionally transcended any political periodization in search of new questions. These efforts are due to the urge to overcome the dominant state-centric narrative.
