Abstract

The paper aims to analyse how the decision on abolition of the surplus-appropriation system influenced the course of Tambov rebellion of 1920-1921. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that changes in food policy of the Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks) are analysed by the example of Tambov rebellion of 1920-1921, one of the most significant peasants’ protest movements of that period. The conducted research allows concluding that abolition of the surplus-appropriation system during transition to New Economic Policy did not have a significant impact on Tambov peasants’ political moods and did not reduce combat activity of the peasants’ rebel squads.
