Abstract

The purpose of the research is to determine the main aspects of the everyday life of Leningrad orphanages evacuated to Krasnoyarsk Krai during the Great Patriotic War: children’s adaptation to the new living conditions, formation of a mixed age children’s group, organisation of meaningful leisure activities for children, etc. The research is novel in that it introduces into scientific use archival materials written by caregivers of the evacuated children’s institutions. As a result, it has been shown that by studying the local history of children’s institutions, it is possible to complement significantly the history of the rear area population’s everyday life during the Great Patriotic War, to experience the world of rear area childhood placed in the context of catastrophic events of the era.
