Abstract
The article highlights the dynamics of the study of ethnic history of the peoples of Siberia in the XVI-XX centuries by Russian scientists. The following four periods of such studies are defined: 1) XVIII - the middle of XIX century - characterized by separate data on the topic in general works on ethnography and history; 2) the second half of XIX - 1930s - appearance of scientidfic interpretation of materials on ethnic history; 3) 1940-1950s - appearance of special works on ethnic history; 4) 1960-2020s - formation of ethnic history as a priority research direction in ethnology, development of theoretical foundations of ethnic history.
