Abstract

The paper presents a theoretical analysis of approaches to defining the concept of «age» as one of the main criteria of mental life and features of its nature and variety of age as a psychological category: chronological, social, biological and psychological. The main criteria for understanding and interpreting psychological age are analyzed. It is noted that psychological age is an important temporal characteristic of a person's life, as it reflects the moment of human perception of the system of relations between the events of his life, and is formed based on his experience of realizing his life at the level of holistic existence. The components of psychological age and its correlation with the chronological age of the individual are established at the conceptual level. It is noted that the psychological age of a person depends on the existing life competencies that are formed throughout life. The essence of life competence and its structure are considered. It is emphasized that it is at the student age that there is an awareness of the uniqueness and irreversibility of time, understanding the finality of its existence, which encourages reflection on the meaning of life and death, time and life prospects, setting new, achievable goals, making plans for the future. The main attention in the article is paid to the experimental research, which allowed to establish the psychological and pedagogical characteristics of the psychological age of speech therapists in the context of life competencies of the individual. It is determined that in general the difference between chronological and psychological age of speech therapists is insignificant and is within the norm (first-year students have a psychological age less than chronological, in the fourth year these figures are almost the same), this is due to acquisition of life skills. The difference between the life expectancy of the first and fourth year students was also traced, which confirmed the optimistic view of students on life prospects. Key words: age, biological age, chronological age, psychological age, way of life, life competence.
