Abstract

The article critically examines the facts and circumstances of insufficiently truthful coverage of the events of the Great Patriotic War, especially its first two years. The reasons for our heaviest defeats during this period are being clarified, among which, along with the strategic miscalculations of the country's leadership, Stalin's repressions were of paramount importance, which destroyed more than 90% of the top command staff of the Red Army. It shows who replaced them, who is responsible for the inept leadership of the fronts and armies, how many lives it was paid for. But despite everything, it was thanks to the courage, dedication, heroism of many thousands of fighters, and national patriotism that the blitzkrieg planned by Hitler was thwarted and the Germans suffered a crushing defeat near Moscow. In this regard, the article provides numerous documentary evidence. The Battle of Rzhev is analyzed in detail and the role of Marshal Zhukov in it, who led all three strategic offensives on the Rzhev salient, which were completely defeated, and is directly responsible for the colossal losses incurred (about a million killed). Other military operations led by Zhukov are also indicated, which were also accompanied by huge losses. In this regard, the excessive exaltation of him as the "Marshal of Victory" is noted, the long-term feeding of the mythology around his name. The necessity of careful consideration of the experience of the Great Patriotic War in the current situation of military operations with our irreconcilable opponents is emphasized
