Abstract
이 글은 컴퓨테이셔널 프로파간다 현상에 관한 탐색적 시론이다. 그간 국내 언론학에서 이에 관한 이슈는 주로 가짜뉴스 또는 허위조작정보의 맥락 안에서 검토된 반면, 디지털 환경에서의 정치 커뮤니케이션이라는 맥락에서 살펴본 논의는 많지 않다. 연구진은 컴퓨테이셔널 프로파간다의 개념화, 사례들 그리고 규범적 대응 방안에 관한 그간의 논의를 비판적으로 재검토하고 기술과 인간 행위자의 연속체라는 관점에서 이 관행에 대해 소개한다. 앞으로의 정치 커뮤니케이션에서 컴퓨테이셔널한 커뮤니케이션 관행은 더욱 일상화되고 보편화될 것으로 예측되는 상황에서 컴퓨테이셔널 프로파간다와 전통 프로파간다 사이의 연속성과 불연속성에 대한 포괄적 이해가 필요하다. 이 연구를 통해 봇과 같은 비ᐨ인간 요소들과 결합된 새로운 프로파간다 관행과 그 의미에 대한 학계의 관심과 공동체 차원의 논의가 진전되기를 기대한다.
