Abstract

The aim of the research is to study the Tatar vocabulary relating to the naming ceremony. The study is novel in that it uncovers the linguocultural potential of the reviewed lexical-thematic group within the Tatar national language’s vocabulary. The collected lexical material is organised as lexical sets. By employing the method of linguocultural analysis it was possible to identify the cognitive peculiarities of the linguistic units’ functioning. The attained results showed that the lexical units pertaining to the naming ceremony are rich in content, which includes national and religious worldviews. The existing synonymic chain of the basic notions is attributed to the antiquity of the ceremony and its prevalence among various Tatar ethnic groups.
