Abstract
The article examines asyndetic compound sentences in the Mari language from the viewpoint of their stylistic usage. Asyndetic compound sentences in the Mari language are similar in structure to the Finno-Ugric ancestor language and serve to express a complicated thought. The analysis of theoretical and factual material shows that asyndetic compound sentences are widely used both in conversational and in bookish speech, though conversational usage prevails. The stylistic potential of asyndetic compound sentences manifests itself most clearly in the literary language.
