Використання потенціалу логістики внутрішніх водних шляхів для розвитку агробізнесу в Україні

Abstract

Purpose The paper purpose is to study the issues of the potential of using inland waterways logistics for cutting costs of businesses in agricultural sector of Ukraine. Design/methodology/approach The basic principles of the research are generalization and comparison, methods of analysis and synthesis, systematic and comparative, index and statistical grouping methods have been used. Findings The subject of the study is the efficiency analysis of using inland waterways logistics for development of agribusiness in Ukraine. The relevance of the research is determined by the need to improve the logistical infrastructure and bolster support services, to strengthen agricultural products value chains, and increase global market access for Ukrainian agribusinesses. Experiences in several European countries have demonstrated that the use of inland waterways can be a viable alternative. It also supports infrastructure that improves product delivery while minimizing loss, such as storage facilities, dedicated agriculture port terminals, and facilities for processing agriculture products. The right infrastructure can reduce transaction costs for agribusinesses, improve processing of agriculture products, and reduce post-harvest losses. Furthermore, the article analyses the potential for increasing the modal share of inland waterway transport. Compared to other modes of transport which are often confronted with congestion and capacity problems, inland waterway transport system is characterized by its reliability, energy efficiency and major capacity for increased exploitation. Research limitations/implications The paper clearly provides determination of potential of internal waterways logistical solutions, which are underestimated for development of agribusinesses. Originality/value Such knowledge will help to promote and strengthen the competitive position of inland waterways in the transport system, and to facilitate its integration into the intermodal logistics chain, that will allow promoting efficiency and containing leading positions on agricultural internal and external markets.
