Abstract
The article deals with the role and functions of an account in the social network Vkontakte, created for foreign non-philological faculties students. It helps to expand their communication space in Russian, to develop language, speech and cultural competencies and emotional involvement in cultural and historical events of our country, city and university. The online community facilitates to form the international collective and creates additional motivations to communicate in Russian and study in Russian universities. All that pictures an attractive image of a foreign university student in the digital environment.
