Abstract

The pressure perturbation analysis was performed using RANS(Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes) and DDES(Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation) turbulence models. Only the DDES model could capture the pressure perturbation caused by the instability of the shear layer at the boattail of the hammerhead launch vehicle. In order to improve the resolution of the vortex shedding, the sensitivity analysis was performed according to the spatial discretization schemes using Roe-MUSCL, WENO5, and C-WENO5 scheme with lower numerical viscosity. Better resolution of the vortex shedding around the boattail can be obtained by applying higher-order spatial schemes. The grid convergence study also showed the same tendency.
