미국 테네시 주 벤더빌트대학교 영재교육센터 프로그램이 우리나라 영재교육에 주는 시사점 탐색

Abstract

이 연구는 미국 테네시 주 벤더빌트대학교 영재교육센터에서 운영하는 프로그램을 통하여 우리나라 영재교육에 주는 시사점을 학생, 교원, 그리고 학부모 관점에서 제시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 벤더빌트대학교 영재교육센터 홈페이지, 벤더빌트대학교 영재교육센터에서 제공한 최신 자료, 벤더빌트대학교 영재교육센터 소장과의 면담, 그리고 벤더빌트대학교 영재교육센터에서 운영하는 프로그램에 직접 참여 또는 관찰함으로써 수집한 자료를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 학생과 관련하여서는 조기영재선발, 인문학 기반의 간학문적 교육과정, 통합 교육과정 모형, 개별화학습계획 정보, 교원과 관련하여서는 맞춤형 영재교육 담당교원 연수와 영재교육 담당교원 자격을 인증해주는 프로그램, 그리고 학부모와 관련하여서는 영재교육 전문가를 중심으로 영재 학부모들이 네트워크를 형성할 수 있는 지원 프로그램을 제안하였다. The purpose of this study was to offer suggestions for students, teachers, and parents, respectively, to develop effective gifted education programs in Korea by examining the programs from Vanderbilt Programs for Talented Youth (PTY) at Tennessee in the USA. The method is based on the analyses of PTY web pages, recent materials on programs from PTY, interviews with the executive director of PTY, participation in the endorsement program, and observation in SAVY(Saturday Academy at Vanderbilt for the Young) program. In order to improve gifted education programs in Korea, the results indicate as follows: in respect to students, early identification and education, interdisciplinary humanities curriculums, integrated curriculum models, and information of individual learning plans are essential; in regards to teachers, tailored gifted teacher programs and gifted endorsement programs are necessary; in consideration of parents, programs for supporting parents' groups with professional gifted educators are indispensible.
