Abstract

According to statistics, the society faces an overall increase in crime and the number of assaults on and (armed) resistance to law enforcement officers in certain constituent entities of the Russian Federation. The current situation is that internal affairs bodies do not always win a battle due to various reasons. A major reason includes their inadequate psychological training for suppressing the aggressive intentions of an armed criminal. The author highlights the relevance of the study into the pathogenic effects of stress factors on the psychological state of police officers and their effective/ineffective use of service weapons. The research provides recommendations that will not only improve the shooting skills of internal affairs bodies but also considerably increase their psychological resistance to various negative influences.
