Abstract

The study aims to identify translation methods and describe peculiarities of using transformations in translating colouristic vocabulary into Russian. The research is novel in that it is the first to determine specifics of translating colour terms using O. Wilde’s short stories and tales. As a result of the study, it is possible to conclude that the Russian texts mostly feature equivalent translations of colour terms. Nevertheless, differences in colour perception and language structures cause certain difficulties in translating colouristic vocabulary, which leads to using various transformations in order to achieve adequate translation (substitution, transposition, omission, addition).
