Abstract

The purpose of the article is to describe the changes that have occurred in the psychology of the individual in European societies of Modern times as a result of the process of urbanization. The subject of the study are the works of foreign authors on this issue. As a methodology is used a systematic approach, which allows analyzing and combining individual aspects of the phenomenon under study, as well as methods of logical and historical analysis. It is noted that along with the development of cities, there is a need for a private space closed from prying eyes. As a result of forced communication with a lot of unfamiliar people, stress and cognitive overload, a person needs to have a physical and psychological distance with other people. The peculiarities of an urbanized society have brought to life the need for a private space that ensures the physical, local and information security of the individual. Anonymity and social correctness (civility) make it possible to avoid many social conflicts.
