Abstract

Objective : This study aims to systematically analyze and present the effect of sensory integration intervention to improve social interaction for children with developmental disabilities in Korea for the past 10 years. Methods : This study targets domestic papers published from January 2010 to December 2019 through the ‘Korean Occupational Therapy Society’, ‘Korean Sensory Integration Therapy Association’, ‘Academic Research Information Service’, and ‘Korean Academic Information’. As the search term, “sensory integration”, “developmental disorder”, “social interaction” were used as search terms, and 6 studies searched in this study were selected as targets for analysis I did. Results : The levels of evidence included in the analysis were Ⅱ, Ⅳ, and 1 for V and 3 for Ⅲ. Group sensory integration therapy focused on vestibular, proprioceptive, and tactile sensation was the most common. In addition, the outcome measures used in these therapeutic interventions had the highest frequency of evaluation factors for interaction, resulting in positive improvement or positive decrease in the evaluation area. Conclusions : By presenting the characteristics of sensory integration intervention to improve social interaction of children with developmental disabilities in Korea, it was intended to help experts in related fields use this information. In order to improve social interaction for children with developmental disabilities in Korea, group-sensory integrated therapy centered on vestibular, proprioceptive, and tactile sensation is mainly performed, and these interventions showed positive improvement or positive decrease.
