Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of constructing daily conversation in terms of topic and coherence and to present the case of coherence weakening of conversation through the analysis of conversations of learners who study Korean as a second language. This study emphasizes the importance of reconsidering the necessity of daily conversation education and educating Korean learners to possess the ability of constructing Korean conversation. Particularly In daily conversation education, improving the ability of introducing and ending the topic of conversation naturally in Korean and the ability of expanding to deepen the main topic through linking sub-topics is necessary. For this purpose, this study presented cases of coherence weakening through the analysis of conversations of Korean learners in respect of searching topic, changing topic and terminating topic and tried to draw implications for daily conversation education. Through this study, the coherence of conversation weakened in the category of failure of common topic search, sudden topic conversions, failure to adapt to topic conversions, and sudden termination of the topic was observed, and educational implications was suggested in each category.
