Abstract

The article describes the basic lexical means used to form the English neologisms of 2019. The study is based on the onomasiological approach. Neologisms are classified according to the subject area and the type of word formation. The analysis of neologisms (71 lexical units) resulted in identifying 13 onomasiological (thematic) groups and allowed the authors to conclude that the basic lexical means of neologisms formation include stem composition, telescopy/contamination, derivation, eponymy, metonymy, erratization, contamination, acronymy. A mixed type of word formation is also relevant.
