Abstract

The paper aims to present a linguo-culturological description of food and drink vocabulary in the Russian old-timers’ dialects of the Ob-Irtysh interfluve. Scientific originality of the research involves revealing national and cultural specificity of the lexical units under study. The lexicographical description is accompanied with culturological commentaries. The findings indicate that food and drink vocabulary has a heterogeneous etymological structure and includes the original Russian names and words borrowed from neighbouring languages. The names of baked food, soups, porridges, fish and dairy products form the nucleus of this vocabulary. The following motivation features of food and drink names are identified: ingredient names, cooking techniques and serving suggestions, specific features of a meal, its influence on the human organism.
