Abstract

This study analyzed a family therapy case of an adolescent with panic disorder(PD). We examined experiences of client and her family in the stage of panic disorder. For this purpose, this research used the thematic analysis method to analyze implicit and explicit ideas from the counseling transcript and counseling log. Also, the researchers utilized the network to display the results of study. As a result of the study, the developmental process of PD was as follows: First, fear of abandonment, second, oppressed emotion, third, fear of loss, fourth, re-experiencing of abandonment. We identified four stages of the psychological process in the development of PD and examined external situations, family dynamics, core affect at each stage. This study is meaningful in that it presented the context in which panic disorder developed step by step, and examined the relationship between crisis situations, family dynamics, and core affect in each step.
