Abstract

Objectives The purposes of this study were to investigate the perception patterns of Korean and Chinese Advanced learners about the compound reflexive ‘자기 자신’ and ‘자기 스스로’. Methods Considering the limitations of simple recursive events, a questionnaire was created and then a survey was conducted to investigate the perception patterns of complex recursive events. A study was conducted on the perception patterns of complex reflexive ‘자기 자신’ and ‘자기 스스로’ among 20 Korean native speakers and 20 advanced Chinese learners attending S University in Seoul. Based on the results of the survey, Korean native speakers and The Chinese advanced learners identified the perception patterns of the compound reflexive ‘자기 자신’ and ‘자기 스스로’. Results According to the results of the analysis, Korean native speakers have the same perception of the compound reflexive ‘자기 자신’ and ‘자기 스스로’, however Advanced Chinese learners have a confused perception. In addition, Chinese advanced leaners showed a tendency to recognize Korean complex reflexive words by connecting them to their mother tongue under the influence of their mother tongue. Lastly, it can be seen that it is difficult for Advanced Chinese learners to use the compound reflexive ‘자기 자신’ and ‘자기 스스로’ to distinguish them. Conclusions Through the survey conducted on Korean native speakers and Advanced Chinese leaners, we lookde at what kind of perception each had. In the future, it is necessary to prepare an educational plan for Chinese learners by conducting a comparative study on compound recursive history.
