Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine the specifics of the metaphorical modelling of medical knowledge in the field of cardiac physiology as a way of cognition. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the use of frame analysis to describe the modern ideas of medical scientists about the functioning of the heart muscle in scientific medical discourse. As a result of analysing the main metaphorical models “The heart is a mechanism” and “The heart is an inanimate nature”, it was revealed that the peculiarity of the metaphor in scientific medical discourse is the maximum similarity of the functions of the target sphere and the source sphere of metaphorization, the usualness of metaphors and close connection with related sciences.
