Abstract

This article assessed the categories of Silla laws within the East Asian legal system, with particular focus on laws of education that can be verified through historical records. The study confirmed that there were approximately 31 categories of Silla laws that have been verified so far. Additionally, the study evaluated the feasibility of restoring Silla’s laws of education by comparing them with those of the Jin (晋) and Tang (唐) dynasties, and Japan (日本). Undoubtedly, it remains unclear whether the Silla laws were published or promulgated in the form of a legal code, although it has been well established that there existed the laws(律令格式) that were believed to have operated in some form or the other by Silla.
