Abstract

The aim of the current study was to examine the comparison of muscular volume and circulating inflammatory markers between spontaneous active exercise participants and non-active participants in adult men. Using a cross-sectional approach, we studied 31 men who visited the Fitness Center at Keimyung University. Subjects were divided into 2 groups (active exercise participant and non-active participant group) based upon state of spontaneous exercise participation. We measured anthropometric factors (BMI, total body percent fat, WHR & abdominal fat area by CT scanning), blood levels of lipid profiles, CRP, fibrinogen, adiponectin, and HOMA. Independent t-tests were used to assess differences between active exercise participants and non-active participants. Significance was accepted at p0.05. Compared with the non-active exercise participants, active exercise participants had no signigicant differences in body composition. Blood levels of lipid profiles showed no significant difference between active exercise participants and non-active exercise participants. Abdominal fat area of active exercise participant group showed a lower tendency than non-active exercise participant group, and the ratio of muscular area to abdominal fat area of active exercise participant group showed a higher tendency than non-active exercise participant group.
