Abstract

the article attempts to reveal the role of right-wing political forces in the formation of Catalan nationalism in the last quarter of the XIX century and to determine the results of their activities by 1898. In the late 1880s, the Catalan nationalist ideology was created, the right became the dominant force in Catalan politics. The unstable political and economic situation, the lack of influence on state policy, the struggle for protectionism and against the civil code consolidated the conservative strata of the population, attracted the sympathies of the bourgeoisie and intellectuals. Right-wing forces played a key role in shaping regional, cultural and political discourses in the region, and thanks to their efforts, the symbolism of Catalan nationalism took shape by the end of the century.
