Abstract

The role of human capital in the world economy is increasing, especially in the context of the unprecedented rapid development of modern science and technology. The paper considers various methods of calculation of HC, proposed by theoreticians at different times. As a result we came to the conclusion that the most appropriate way to calculate HC by international organizations today is the human capital index. An attempt was made to study in depth the index of HC, methods of its calculation according to the UN and the World Bank. It was through the index of HC that the trends of HC development in the world economy were presented. We touched upon the methodology of calculation of the individual components of the index, their innovations. The index was presented for individual regions, the reasons for differences in them were identified. Some components of the index in Armenia and other countries were studied. We also mentioned the shortcomings and limitations of the HC index.
