Abstract
The article deals with the problem of a German-language short story translation into Russian. In the German linguoculture, this type of fiction text belongs to a separate genre, the heyday of which is attributed to the middle of the ХХ century, to the German-language post-war literary school. On the basis of the selected categories (title, dialogicality, time, space, event, composition, thematic integrity, text dynamics, tone, evaluative character) and their expression in the text, the author conducts a comparison of the source text of the story “Das Brot” by W. Borchert and its translation into Russian made by L. Chernaya. The revealed differences allow drawing a conclusion about the translation quality, as well as the relevance of using the selected categories for a short story translation.
