Abstract

The Information Technology sector has been the fastest-growing and the most dynamic segment in the global economy over the past decade. Recognising its potential, the Government of the RA, on December 28, 2000, the government of the Republic of Armenia designated information technology industry as a priority sector for the contry’s economic development. The rapid advancements within this sector have reshaped the motivations driving IT employees, resulting in high work efficiency. Studies on traditional approaches to employee motivation, as well as specific research on the motivation of IT specialists in the RA, show that the work motivation of the employees of the RA IT sector and the influencing factors are constantly evolving. This makes it imperative for human resource management specialists and employers to monitor these changes. Taking into account that the level of remuneration for work in the IT sector is the highest in the RA, it is obvious that individual approaches to motivation are necessary. This includes regular reviews of incentive packages, as well as staying attuned to the latest trends in motivational systems employed by both local and international organizations. This paper is dedicated to the study of the characteristics of the work motivation of the employees in the RA IT sector and the identification of the factors affecting them.
