Abstract

Dissident groups started to emerge in the USSR in the 1960s and later extended to Soviet Armenia. There, dissidents expressed their opinions in three main ways. But the fight for Armenia's independence to be restored was at the heart of the dissident movement. Following the completion of the concepts debated in Armenian patriotic circles, the National United Party was created in 1966 and assumed leadership of the campaign for the liberation of Armenia and the restoration of statehood. It was of extraordinary international importance across the USSR, not only in Soviet Armenia.
