Abstract
Velocity sections and acoustic characteristics of the sedimentary cover of the Central (Japan), Yamato (Honshu), Tsushima basins and the Kita-Yamato trough of the Sea of Japan, as well as the rocks of the basement and Cenozoic cover of the Yamato Upland were studied. A comparative analysis of similar characteristics of the Cenozoic basins of the South China and East China marginal seas was carried out. The relationship between the acoustic properties (P-wave velocity - Vp) of the basal horizons and the age of the Cenozoic cover in the above basins were analyzed. It has been substantiated that the values of Vp = 3.0-3.6 km/s are an acoustic characteristic of Paleocene-Eocene sedimentary strata. According to the studies performed, the basal layers in the inferred depocenters of the Sea of Japan basins (Central, Yamato, Tsushima) have Vp = 3.0-3.3 km/s, which indicates the Paleocene-Eocene age of the beginning of their formation.
