Abstract

The purpose of the study is to substantiate the need to implement the “National Programme for the Support and Development of Reading” at a technical university on the basis of a “literary competition” online event (using the example of the Siberian State Automobile and Highway University). The paper presents the main stages of the competition, proposes various types of tasks with the help of which the reading literacy of students of technical universities is improved. Internet technologies are used to complete tasks aimed at increasing interest in reading and improving the reading literacy of students of technical universities, which makes it possible to attract more participants from different cities and countries to the event. Scientific novelty of the study lies in presenting a model of the literary competition including two stages: the correspondence stage, which involves posting participants’ works on the website of the competition, and the online stage with various types of tasks aimed at developing reproductive and productive reading skills in students of technical universities. As a result, the advantages and disadvantages of the online format for holding events within the framework of the “National Programme for the Support and Development of Reading” have been assessed.
