Abstract
The purpose of this article is to identify the goals and interests, the main trends and approaches of India in its partnership with the United States on Afghanistan; commonality and possible disagreements in the positions of the global and regional power in the region; their potential in stabilizing Afghanistan, taking into account India's long-term plans in the Central Asian region. The main aspect in analysis of these relationships is a multidisciplinary approach that combines historical-chronological, structural-systemic and geopolitical analysis. Despite the previously published work on the Indo-American partnership, bilateral relations have not been studied in the interconnection of India's interests in Central Asia taking into account the most recent trends and sources on the topic. Undertaken analysis sheds light on ambivalence of the Indo-American relations, the ambiguity and hesitation of New Delhi in its relations with Washington mainly in connection with the current U.S. cooperation with Pakistan and the resulting risks of its long-term policy in the region. Nevertheless, this does not prevent the intensification of its relations with the United States in recent years, but makes India's policy on Afghanistan dependent on possible shifts in U.S. regional strategy.
