Abstract

The paper deals with the current issue of developing cultural needs of the younger generation in connection with education and mental health. The authors provide a definition of cultural needs and their characteristics from the standpoint of cultural and historical psychology. The necessity of developing cultural needs and their characteristics -awareness, meaningfulness (reasonableness), creativity, mediation, arbitrariness (controllability) - in the context of the upbringing and mental health of children and youth is substantiated through analysis.
