Abstract

The purpose of the study is to measure the evaluative potential of precedent anthroponyms used to characterise the political elite in the French media discourse. The work is novel in that it is the first to carry out a comprehensive analysis of precedent anthroponyms as means of verbalisation of evaluative meanings directed at French and foreign politicians based on the material of the modern French press. As a result of the study, the researcher confirms the dependence of the choice of precedent anthroponyms on the stereotypical ideas that dominate in modern French society. The factors influencing the dynamic nature of the evaluation of government representatives in the French media are traced.
