Abstract

Investigations of the fatigue damage of austenitic steel welded joints by ultrasonic and eddy current testing carried out. The evolution of the acoustic birefringence in the heat-affected zone and in the base material is investigated. As a result of eddy current testing, the difference rate of changes in the phase composition in the heat-affected zone and in the base material is shown. A linear relationship between the strain amplitude and the magnetic phase critical value in the base material is obtained. The estimation technique of welded joints fatigue damage in the heat-affected zone based on the results of eddy current testing under regular loading in the low-cycle fatigue region is proposed.
