Abstract

The article analyzes women’s movement from the viewpoint of gender stereotypes of traditional and industrial society. Basing on the memories of women - Kuznetsk Metallurgical Works builders, the paper reveals the features of gender approach and local history, the possibilities of their use while studying women’s movement. Special attention is paid to the movement of housewives and the wives of the engineering and technical staff from Kuznetsk Metallurgical Works builders, which is an important research object when studying stereotypic behaviour. The authors conclude that, in spite of women’s active participation in social movement, stereotypes of traditional society continued to exist within the framework of the urban community that was being formed.
