Abstract
Purpose: In this study, we evaluated the reliability of lens coatings that play a vital role in the reliability of lenses for mobile devices. We also discussed design improvement methods for enhancing reliability.
Methods: The reliability test method that can cause failures in the field conditions of lens coating most closely is the temperature–humidity complex cycle condition, in which the temperature-humidity cycle and the moisture freeze–thaw cycle can be applied simultaneously. Therefore, in this study, a temperature-humidity complex cycle test was performed followed by failure analysis. In addition, a design improvement was proposed to improve the rigidity against such cycle failures.
Results: It was confirmed that the combined temperature-humidity cycle test can predict more reliably whether the design of the lens coating can be improved by simulating the failure of the lens coating in a similar way to the actual field environment.
Conclusion: This study confirmed the impact of effectively destroying the lens coating microscopically through the temperature-humidity complex cycle test. However, a microscopic confirmation of the process, wherein moisture penetrates into the coating interface and destroys the coating has not yet been performed. Microscopic experiments and observations will be performed in the future.
