Abstract
The research aims to determine under what circumstances a teacher employs code-switching in speech communication with students in a foreign language class and what communicative intentions are expressed during this code-switching. The paper considers the relevance of the said phenomenon as a subject of study of bilingual communication (the process of information exchange between people as a result of using a foreign language system that follows certain patterns) in linguistics, sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics. Scientific novelty of the work lies in systematising methods that involve and exclude code-switching by a teacher in speech communication in the process of foreign language teaching based on a review of Russian and foreign literature. As a result, an attempt has been made to analyse these methods in the practice of code-switching by teachers in speech communication as a decisive criterion for successful foreign language teaching.
