The methodology of the research is based on analytical, system, interdisciplinary methods and musicological approach. The scientific novelty of this article is to reveal the concept of intra-ensemble musical communication, highlight the problem of musical thinking of members of the domra ensemble in the context of the latest concepts of musical time; a detailed consideration of some of the necessary principles, namely a sense of musical time and an understanding of the timing structures that influence the success of ensemble performance. Conclusions. There is a process of communication in musical-performing activity, as well as in language communication. It is called musical communication. There is a process of communication not only between the performer, composer and listener, but also within the ensemble in collective performance. Such communication we have called intra-ensemble. This intra-ensemble musical communication is based on certain universally binding rules and principles that ensemble members must follow in order to successfully perform a composition and good implementation of the composer’s idea. Such principles, the understanding and feeling of which should be as similar and close as possible for all members of the ensemble, in particular include: sense of musical time, understanding of time structures and construction of phrases, intonation, articulation. Music time is one of the most important and difficult issues in music performance. Therefore all members of the ensemble should feel the musical time as similar as possible – this is the basis of playing in the ensemble. If the members of the ensemble feel the musical time differently, there are time discrepancies that accumulate and lead to the destruction of the ensemble.
