Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the use of internet applications by young people in Yemen and their level of awareness of electronic rumors about current events and conflict in the country. To achieve this objective, the survey method was used and a questionnaire was administered to a sample of 400 randomly selected young internet users from Sana'a Governorate. The study findings revealed a high level rate of internet use by Yemeni young people. There was a positive correlation between the rate of internet use and respondents’ general awareness of electronic rumors about current events and conflict in Yemen. There was also a positive correlation between the respondents' level of critical thinking about rumors and their level of awareness of them. Furthermore, the variable of critical thinking had a positive impact on the intensity of the relationship between the extent dependence on the internet as a source of knowledge and the awareness level of electronic rumors.
