Abstract

The article deals with the issues of correlation between gambling and the corresponding gambling addiction of an individual, predetermining the psycho-physiological state of his organism and placing him in the category of a problem gambler. Having identified the peculiarities of the online format of the process of gambling addiction, the author makes a typology of the modern landscape of gambling, built on digital platforms and contributing to moving the player’s consciousness into a state of euphoria from the expected winnings in a more accessible way and with the help of the virtual world. On the basis of the analysis of foreign literature on the problem of gambling addiction in the conditions of growing tendency to digitalisation of society and individual consciousness of individuals, the author focuses on some provisions of the sources introduced by him into scientific discourse, which are of interest both in theoretical terms and from the position of their practical relevance, with regard to clarification of the arsenal of psychodiagnostic tools having recommendatory value for various categories of specialists. In the author’s opinion, the psychological guidelines of authoritative representatives of foreign science reflected in the article will allow national specialists to make the necessary corrections in terms of the organisation of their activities to neutralise the negative consequences of problem gambling participation in both offline and online gambling.
