Abstract

The aim of the study is to substantiate the need to improve the rules governing the use of capital letters in official names. The article discusses the linguistic content of the current standards for the spelling of official names and proposals for updating this fragment of the norm in the manuals that claim to be called the modern code of the Russian spelling laws. The scientific novelty lies in a systematic analysis of the relevant standard, in the development of consistent rules that help streamline the spelling of the names under consideration and eliminate spelling inconsistencies in the modern practice of the Russian writing. As a result, it is proved that the rules for the use of a capital letter in official names need to be significantly improved taking into account both the historically developed tradition of using a capital letter in the Russian writing and modern writing practice.
